The Arm River Outdoor Education Centre is a residential camp situated near the confluence of the Arm and Mersey Rivers near Lake Rowallan. The centre offers students and teachers a unique opportunity to explore topics in forest ecology, forest management and forest issues in a stunning area of State forests surrounded by national parks and the World Heritage Area. A wide range of forest types are readily accessible as well as examples of human management practices dating back to the end of the last ice age

The Centre caters for teacher and student groups from upper primary to tertiary level. All programs are negotiated with groups and can be tailored to meet any curriculum requirements. Programs are delivered by a practicing teacher.

The Centre offers full catering, has its own bus allowing access to the whole Mersey Valley and beyond and has extensive library and audiovisual resources. Hydro power provides lighting and power outlets while all rooms have Saxon wood heaters.

Preferred maximum group size (including accompanying staff) is 34 as this is the maximum number that can be transported by the Centres bus and 4x4 vehicle. Larger groups can be considered by negotiation but this may severely restrict program options.

Programs designed to give teachers an understanding of Tasmania’s unique forest ecology, management practices applied to these forests, (from both an historical and modern perspective), and issues arising from human interaction with these forest environments are offered.
