Curriculum Planning

The spiral bound Curriculum Planning Guide:

  • Raises the awareness of teachers to the many learning opportunities provided by our diverse forest environments and management practices. Its major focus learning areas are in SOSE, Science and Technology, with supporting ideas and activities in other learning areas.
  • Describes the concepts and understandings that may be developed through forest related studies, addresses the question of ‘Why learn about forests?’ and outlines a wide range of teaching approaches.
  • Covers three distinct areas (Forest Systems, Forest management and Forest Issues) for addressing Key Ideas for forest studies that can be explored when developing teaching units.
  • Provides Content Overviews giving teachers a framework for developing integrated learning programs, whole-school planning models and classroom teaching units.
  • Includes extensive Starter Ideas for activities in SOSE, Science and Technology and other learning areas geared to Levels 1-6.
  • Provides a variety of Sample Teaching Units from both primary and secondary teachers demonstrating some of the ways that the planning document can support teachers in the planning, resourcing and delivery of units. Student work samples highlight the learning outcomes.
