Project forest was produced by the Forest Education foundation Incorporated, founded jointly by the Tasmanian Forest Industries and Forestry Tasmania in 1989.

The main aims of Project Forest are:

  • To exncourage teachers to develop their knowledge and understanding of forest environments and human interactions with them
  • To develop teacher confidence to participate in forest education support with students
  • To encourage and support teachers to explore forest education opportunities within the classroom
  • To provide opportunities for students to understand, and participate in decision making processes concerning, our forest environments

Project Forest has been developed through a long consultation process with practicing classroom teachers, curriculum specialists and the forestry sector.

Developing the package over a three year period allowed time to review and focus the content to meet the needs of schools and teachers. This process included an independent monitoring and evaluation program. As a result of these processes, the development of mechanisms to introduce the package to the education community and to provide the necessary ongoing g support became a significant part of Project Forest.
