Southern Forests

Orientation field trip

Fact sheet 4

The Southern forests is an area dominated by tall E. obliqua (Stringy bark) wet forest, the most wide spread forest type in Tasmania. This field trip will provide a number of options for teachers to explore, covering the rich history of the timber getting in the area, forest ecology and management, and visits to the Esperance Forest and Heritage Centre, a working forest harvesting operation and the Warra Long Term Ecological Research Site.

During the field trip we will be addressing the teaching and learning opportunities within the SOSE, Science and Technology Learning Areas. These opportunities will be linked to the Project Forest resource package.
