Dissemination and Professional Development

The Project Forest – Teacher Resource Package is available to Primary and Secondary Schools and Colleges throughout Tasmania. An initial dissemination workshop is provided to introduce the package and related resources. Professional Development activities are available for schools to pursue following the dissemination workshop. Participation in professional development activities is optional.

Professional Development:

The FEF aims to provide ongoing support to schools utilising the Project Forest package and related resources. Professional Development activities may be over a school term or calendar year and may involve a series of after school / evening workshops, half day / full day field trips, 2 to 3 day residential camps or a combination of these. An allocation of teacher relief is available and will be negotiated on an individual school basis.

Professional Development activities available include:

Orientation field trips; to develop an interest and understanding in the areas of forest ecology, forest management, the processing of forest products and issues arising as a consequence of human interactions with forest environments (includes visits to: working forests / industry / FEF field study centres and developed excursion sites).

School based workshops; to review resources, develop units of work linking the curriculum with field site opportunities for supporting classroom activities.

Residential experiences; covering the above (2 to 3 days - Programs negotiated with schools).

Orientation field trips:

As a follow-up to introducing teachers to the Project Forest – Teacher Resource Package the FEF encourages teachers to participate in a full day forest based orientation field trip. These trips may be varied to suit the needs of individual schools. Half day or 2 to 3 day residential experiences can be developed on request.

Full day field trips available include: (see fact sheets for further detail)
