The Southern Forests beyond Geeveston offer schools a wide range of learning opportunities. They have a diversity ranging from dry peppermint ridges trough tall wet eucalypt forest to riverine rainforest containing Huon pine. Students can investigate topics including fire ecology in wet eucalypt forests, the nature and ecology of wet eucalypt forests, the Huon pine story, timber harvesting through the ages, modern forest management forest research (The WARRA area, beyond the Tahune Airwalk, is part of a global network of Long Term Ecological Research sites), timber milling in a country sawmill and even the possibility of a visit to the Tahune Airwalk.
