Project Forest is a Package designed for Primary and Secondary teachers focussing on Tasmania’s forests, their ecology, their management and the many different and changing values associated with our interactions with these environments. The package links learning opportunities with the curriculum through the SOSE, Science and Technology learning areas.

The package consists of three components, which provide schools and teachers with:

1. a curriculum planning document

  • why learn about forests
  • teaching approaches
  • curriculum links
  • key ideas / starter ideas
  • teaching samples

2. supporting teaching resources

  • forest systems
  • forest management
  • forest issues
  • print and visual text reviews
  • maps / historical photographs and notes

3. professional development and ongoing support

  • school based dissemination
  • forest / industry orientation
  • site specific field resources
  • CD ROM development

Student Activities Booklet

A student activities booklet is now available to schools who have the Project Forest package. (It is free of charge to these schools). This practical and easy to use activity booklet contains a large compilation of lesson and activity ideas for teachers covering each of the eight Key Learning Areas. Ideas are included for each part of the Project Forest package including suggestions for using maps and posters. It also includes ‘ready to use’ photocopiable student activity sheets.

Two sample pages are illustrated in the following PDF files

Worksheet 01 and Activity Sheet

Project Forest is a Tasmanian based and focussed resource. The flexibility of the package structure and the content provides schools and teachers with a framework for developing integrated learning programs, whole school planning models or classroom teaching units.
