National Forest Learning Centre

The new National Forest Learning Centre is based in Hobart and aims to provide school groups of all ages with short centre based activities, as an introduction to forest ecosystems and industry based around six themed areas. These can provide a general overview of forest ecology and forestry processes, or act as preparation for further studies, either on a field trip to one of our local sites or back in the classroom. The Centre is based in a heritage listed building and utilises the adjacent forestry dome to provide a range of short activities that can be modified to meet the need of individual groups. The Centre is staffed by qualified teachers who will help you to gain the maximum benefit (and fun!) from your visit.

The Centre will run activities during normal school hours throughout the week, and we also welcome visits from teachers who wish to view the Centre before bringing a group -please contact one of us to arrange a time. We are also available at the Centre until 4.30 pm.
Most visits will last between 1and a half and 2 hours, but we are always able to adjust this to your own time constraints. The cost is $3 per student. It may be possible to help with transport costs by using the FEF minibus for small groups; please ask if you are interested. An invoice will be sent to the school address a few days after the visit
More information on the activities is availble here. Please contact us if you have any queries or would be interested in making a booking. The Centre will be open to school groups from mid October.
