Information for teachers
To get the most from your visit to the NFLC, we recommend group size does not exceed approx 30 students, due to the small group nature of the work in part of the program. This allows each student to contribute to the task in hand. Activities are carried out simultaneously and the FEF tutor/s is present at all times to deal with issues and enquires that arise. In this case, students will not necessarily have someone with their small group at all times. As a result, we ask that the student behaviour should be as expected in a science lab environment, with no running or eating in the NFLC area (including the Dome). Teachers are responsible for the appropriate behaviour of their students during the visit.
Although we do not specify a teacher: student ratio for visits, it is the responsibility of the visiting staff to ensure this complies with the school requirements. Obviously, the greater the number of helpers, the easier the dealing with any problems during the small group activities, although it must be said that each activity is designed to be followed without adult guidance.
Students cannot have lunch at the centre, although toilet facilities are available.
Please consider the timing of the visit to the Centre; if it is combined with other activities (school camps/sports visits) we often find students are distracted and unable to gain the full benefit from the visit.
