Learning opportunities
For students and teachers wishing to learn about Tasmania, we can offer a range of experiences. The FEF runs the National Forest Learning Centre, where students can take part in a number of activities based on forest ecology, forest practices and forest products. We also take trips to forest study sites in both the north and south of the state, and can arrange to visit your school. Click on the images or links below to find out more or contact us for a chat.
The National Forest Learning Centre is based in the Exhibtion Hall in Melville Street, Hobart. It provides the opportunity for school groups to undertake a range activities in small groups, using the themed areas as a focus for the topics, and to learn about Tasmanian forest types using our interactive white board.Find out more!
If you can’t make it to Hobart and would like us to visit your school, we can arrange to visit your group in the classroom. Contact us to organise a date.
The Forest Education Foundation is also involved with other educational science groups across Tasmania and has links with UTAS, participating their Science Week, and with the Science Teachers Association of Tasmania in the Tasmanian Science Talent Search. We also work in partnership with Hollybank Treetops Adventure to combine ecology activies with a flight through the trees. Find out more here.
Either as a starting point, or as an extension of a NFLC visit, a trip to one of our field study sites is a great way to understand Tasmanias forest environments. We have progams for primary, high school and college groups in the north and south of the State- mud is an optional extra! Have a look at the areas we visit.
