National Forest Learning Centre update
Work has started on the building of the new National Forest Learning Centre in Hobart
The construction of the National Forest Learning Centre is now underway, with the main work stations being installed in the Exhibition Hall at Melville Street. The work areas are designed to pose familiar questions centred on forests and forestry practices, and are designed to incorporate activities and investigations for visiting schools, as well as being a visitor centre for the public during quieter times.
The Centre is constructed of locally sourced timber, with information displayed on a series of small cardboard tablets (heavy-duty recycled material), that can be moved around the Centre or used in school presentations.
The Centre will be officially opened on November 13 this year, with school group bookings being taken from the end of October onwards. Teacher orientation workshops will also run during October and November, which will be free to teachers who would like to come and familiarise themselves with the Centre and its activities. Further details will be posted on this website when dates are finalised, but in the meanwhile, follow the links on the Teachers and students section of the website, which covers the learning opportunities provided by the FEF.
