Forest Discovery Experience

 

The Forest Discovery Experience is a unique school-based program, which offers classes from K-6 the opportunity to participate in a range of interactive, hands-on and engaging learning experiences.

This dynamic school based program involves the FEF teachers utilising your school hall (or similar space) to engage students with forest systems, setting up displays and specialised equipment. The Forest Discovery Experience provides a chance to meet the Science, HASS and Design and Technologies Curriculum goals across the K-6 year groups. The program runs over a number of consecutive days, for single class groups, sessions running for approximately 60-90 minutes.

The Forest Discovery Experience includes opportunities to explore:

  • The role of trees
  • Tree features and their function
  • Living things and their habitat
  • Food webs
  • Plant adaptations
  • The life cycle of a tree
  • Decomposers in rotting wood
  • Bushfires and forests
  • Different vegetation types
  • Forest management
  • Sustainability and natural resources
  • Compass and GPS skills
  • Mapping techniques
  • Use and management of resources
  • Role of design and technology
  • Sustainability and design
  • Design occupations
  • Wood use in our daily lives
