Sheffield District School:

A partnership program developed and delivered in collaboration between the FEF, Arbre - forest industries training and careers hub  and Forico Pty Ltd. involving teachers and a group of 15 secondary students. The program included a classroom based introduction followed by a field experience to a forestry operation.

Cosgrove High School:

A partnership program developed and delivered in collaboration between the FEF, the Beacon Foundation, Arbre hub and Norske Skog Pty Ltd. This program included a school-based introductory session combining FEF activities and use of the Arbre hub simulators. Following this a selection of interested students were chosen to participate in a field day hosted by Norske Skog Pty Ltd. This included visiting the paper mill for a tour prior to heading out into the forest for a first-hand experience of a harvesting operation and an overview of the bigger picture of managing the plantation estate at the landscape level. Teacher and student feedback was very positive - with many commenting on the value of the simulator experience and then being able to see the machines operating in the forest. The mill tour also had a significant impact on the students as for many this was their first experience of a large industrial site - seeing how the system operated and the range of jobs involved certainly opened their eyes to a variety of futures.

Mountain Heights School:

A partnership program developed and delivered in collaboration between the FEF, Arbre hub and Forico Pty Ltd. The aim of this field experience was to provide teachers and students with an overview of the forest industries and the potential career pathways available. During the session students participated in a range of activities in order to develop an understanding of the role of forestry in the Tasmanian landscape. Students also had the opportunity to try their skills on the machinery simulators as they harvest an area of plantation forest. The group then visited a number of sites in the Surrey Hills area to gain an understanding of a wide range of roles undertaken by a forest manager, forest grower and the processes involved in establishing, maintaining, harvesting, transporting and processing forest products.
